Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas

Dear Michael,

We are alone this Christmas and it is ok. Katie and Peter are busy in Montclair with our newest grand baby. Dad and I were there to help with Sophia and Finn and I got to spend four weeks with them. Charlotte Hayes Byrne was born Nov. 26 and weighed 8 lbs 10 oz. and 21 inches. She is beautiful and looks a lot like Sophia. You were 8 lbs 11/2 oz and also measured 21 inches. I keep thinking about the similarity in size and wonder where 39 years could have gone. How I wish I could do it all over again.

We had dinner tonight with friends and then I went to candle light service at church. I remember all your birthdays on Christmas Eve and how we tried to make it about your birthday and not Christmas Eve so much, and never going to the candle light service. The candles on your cake were the candle light for us. You were the light. You had a light inside of you that lit up the world. You are so missed and loved by so many, most of all, me.
