COUNTY-WIDE FORUM ON JUVENILE ICE HOLDS

Saint Francis of Assisi Church
1425 Bay Road, East Palo Alto, CA
5:30PM-8:00PM
(Doors open at 5:00PM)
**********************************************
In the wake of the Obama administration’s most recent announcement of deferred action on undocumented immigrant youth, we, the San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights, are renewing our call to organizations to urge the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and Probation Chief to STOP REPORTING YOUTH TO ICE.  An outlier among Bay Area counties, San Mateo County is the second highest referrer of juveniles to ICE in California, according to statistics obtained by Immigrant Legal Resource Center from the Office of Refugee Resettlement.  Young people as young as 13 years old have been sent to detention facilities across the nation, uprooted from their families and communities.

**** Come see the launch of a mini-documentary video called “Get Arrested, Get Deported” produced by Youth United for Community Action (YUCA) in partnership with Silicon Valley De-Bug

**** Hear powerful testimonies from families, faith leaders, and community leaders who are standing up to the system

**** Free 10-minute legal consultations with immigration attorneys (Space is limited.  Please sign up by calling Braulio Gonzalez at YUCA, (650)322-9165 to reserve your spot.)

Event will be in English and Spanish.

Co-sponsored by: San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights • ACLU – North Peninsula Chapter • Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto • Comite de Padres Unidos • El Buen Pastor, Iglesia Episcopal • Immigrant Legal Resource Center • International Institute of the Bay Area • Local Outreach Task Force of the Congregational Church of San Mateo  • Peninsula Interfaith Coalition on Immigration • Silicon Valley De-Bug • St. Francis of Assisi Church, East Palo Alto • Youth United for Community Action

San Mateo County youth need our support. In the wake of the Obama administration’s most recent announcement of deferred action on undocumented immigrant youth, we, the San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights, believe that now more than ever, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and Probation Chief should stop reporting youth to ICE.

Cowardice asks the question: Is it safe?

Expediency asks the question: Is it politic?

Vanity asks the question: Is it popular?

But conscience asks the question: Is it right?

And there comes a time one must take a position that is neither safe,

nor politic nor popular—but one must take it simply because it is right.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
