I have hunted around trying to see what I could find about Homer Wilson.
The starting point was the 1932 Manchester Aurora. As you know, Homer Wilson's senior picture and info are right next to Dad's. (See attachment for photo of 1932 Aurora page)
1. He is listed as being from Covington, Ohio.
I searched FamilySearch for Homer Wilson in Ohio and found only two entries, 1910 and 1920 US Census info for the family in Miami County, Ohio, where Covington is located.
To get copies of the more complete, original census records, I turned to HeritageQuest, available on-line via the Ann Arbor Library. I searched using his father's name, Roy C. Wilson. Attached are the PDF files for the 1910 and 1920 Census sheets.)
The census info gave the following:
2. Homer was born in Oct or Nov 1909. 3. His parents names were Roy C. and Edith Wilson. 4. They lived on a farm. 5. In 1910 they lived on McCurdy Rd in Concord Twp, Miami Co., Ohio. 6. In 1920 they lived in Washington Twp, Miami Co., Ohio. 7. He was the second of at least 7 children. 8. According to the 1920 census record, his middle initial was A.
Ohio birth, marriage and death records were searched using FamilySearch.
9. No birth or marriage records were found. The lack of a marriage record is surprising given that he was married somewhere in the Miami Co., Ohio area.
10. If I remember right, Mom and Dad had said that Homer had moved to Louisiana and his worked in the chemical industry. I believe the company was Rohm & Haas.
FamilySearch birth, marriage and death records were searched for Louisiana.
11. No data was found for Homer Wilson for Louisiana.
Searched Rootsweb Social Security Death Index for Homer A. Wilson born ca. 1909 found the following entry (see attachment):
12. Born 6 October 1909 and died 15 January 2004. Interestingly, the SS card was issued in PA. Rohm & Haas is a Philadelphia company so he could have worked there for a while. No last address of record was given.
Repeated search using FamilySearch US Social Security Death Index:
13. Found that his last address was Highlands Co., FL.
Attempted to search Highlands Co. area newspapers for an obituary but was unsuccessful.
Searched Manchester College Alumni on-line info looking for the death notice that appeared in the same issue of the alumni magazine as Dad's death notice. (I remember seeing the listings for Dad and Homer.) I was unable to find that record. However, I did find the listing for the MC alumni memorial service for 2004.
14. Lists the deaths of Dad and Homer and the dates of their deaths.
I would have liked to have found Homer's marriage info since Mom and Dad attended the wedding. I would also have like to have found some family records from Louisiana and Florida.
So that is where I am right now. Any ideas on how to go forward?
