Dear Peter,

I'm wondering if there is a method to calculate divergence time in absolute age (years), from the 'split time' delta parameter from a two population model output? Or another approach to obtain absolute ages in migrate?
Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks so much for your useful software,
Emily

Emily,

The units are generation*mutation_rate. D=0.001 -> g=1year, mu= 10^-8 -> 10^-3/10^-8 -> 10^5 ->100,000years
If you divide delta by the total population size Theta you get generations in ‘coalescent’ units.
If you suspect recent split dates, you will need to set the priors mean to rather low values

Peter
