Dear Peter,

I would like to insert a ghost population into my Bayesian Migrate
analysis, as you did in your 2004 paper. I have tried to add a "blank"
population with five dummy sequences to the infile, and then added a
custom migration matrix, which included constant or null values for
immigration between the ghost population and the sampled populations.
I also picked a single starting value for both xNem (=100) and theta
(=0.1), which could serve as the constant value. When I run the
program this way, it always ends in a segmentation fault.
Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong, or if this is the proper
way to add a ghost population to the dataset/parmfile?

Many thanks,

Eric

Eric,

try simply to add a ghost populations as the last population like this:

0 ghost

[use a a return at the ned]

does this work?

Peter
PS I will be spotty in responding to email during the next 3 weeks.

Hi Peter,

I tried this with no luck ... it recognizes the ghost population as
containing 0 copies, but then gives me the error below. My idea was to
include the population in the migration matrix, with constant or null
values between each real population, but this results in an error as
well. How did you do it for your 2004 paper?

Many thanks,

Eric
