Over 6,000 Back From Saudi
The Ministry of Foreign Employment says over 6,000 Sri Lankans employed in Saudi Arabia illegally have made use of an amnesty period and returned to the country.
Foreign Employment Minister Dilan Perera said that there were 16,000 Sri Lankans employed in Saudi Arabia illegally.
However, after the Saudi authorities offered an amnesty period, 6,000 Sri Lankans got exit permits and left the country.
He however said that a number of Sri Lankans were still working illegally in the Middle Eastern country and he urged them to make use of the amnesty period before they were arrested.
The Minister noted that the Sri Lankan mission in Saudi Arabia had taken measures to assist Sri Lankans who seek to return to the island. (ER)
