While repression of anti government protesters continues amid popular protests, the situation for migrant workers in Bahrain is as bad as in countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Following the unexplained death of a fellow worker while in police custody, over 500 workers, mainly from south Asian countries, began an indefinite strike. The main demands of the workers centre on better living conditions and increased wages. Trade unions for migrant workers in Bahrain are not allowed
