Overview

The Galileo features an adjustable mount to fit a range of phones and a USB-C pass-through charging port. The controller itself has a familiar asymmetric Xbox-style layout with clickable analog sticks, D-pad, ABXY buttons, triggers and bumpers. There are also dedicated turbo, start, select and mapping buttons. In terms of size, the G8 is quite a bit larger than the X2 but smaller than a regular console controller. The grip handles are very comfortable. Build quality feels premium with a nice weight and rubberized texture.

Performance

The Galileo connects easily via Bluetooth and can be used wired for minimal latency. It worked flawlessly in testing across various emulators and Android/cloud gaming apps. The buttons and sticks have a nice tactile feedback. Battery life is 20+ hours.

Design

The phone mount has adjustable side clamps and tilting mechanism to get the ideal viewing angle. It felt very secure across different devices from small phones to the large ROG Phone 6 Pro. The USB-C pass through charger is handy for extended gaming sessions.Foldable legs allow using the Galileo as a tabletop controller. They could be sturdier but serve the purpose. An included phone clip offers another hands-free option.

Software

The GameSir app allows extensive customization of all buttons, sticks and triggers. Up to 3 profiles can be saved directly on the controller. The software also enables macros, rumble adjustment and more.

Verdict

At $100, the GameSir G8 Galileo delivers an excellent traditional gaming controller experience tailored specifically for mobile devices. Comfortable ergonomic design, seamless device compatibility, long battery life and robust software make it a compelling choice over touch controls or less featured controllers. Highly recommended for mobile gamers wanting a quality controller option.
