Hi all,

What is the difference in canceling a loan and marking it as “rescheduled” vs. going through the admin screen and “Reversing loan disbursal”?

What happens on the backend?

I looked on mifos.org and couldn’t find any clarification.

Hi Ryan,

When you reschedule a loan, all payments remain intact and if you search a client with a rescheduled loan it displays as if it's still active.
When you reverse a loan, all payments made on the loan account are reversed including the disbursement itself.

Hi,

I have attached a document with some screen dumps showing what I had explained earlier.

Polly,

Thanks for answering my question. So the only question that remains for me
now is why would someone pick one method over another? What is the use case
scenario for both? **

Thanks,
Ryan

PS I can understand using the reverse and redo disbursal features, I¹m
just not sure how one would use the cancel-reschedule...

You reverse a loan when there's been a data entry mistake and you basically want to "erase" it from your records.

You reschedule a loan when you want to change the repayment terms for the remaining balance:

For rescheduled loans, the history of previous payments for the loan are not removed from the system.

Emily.
