to osho...@inslimited.com, A good place to start for users or folks new to Mifos.
Gbolahan,

Glad to see you on the mailing lists again. Always happy to see a familiar face in the community.

Thanks for sharing your advice and learnings based on your past deployment experiences with Mifos.

Bamidele,

As Gbolahan stated, there are these gaps between Mifos functionality and the standard operations of a microfinance bank in Nigeria.  I think this thread would be a good means of sharing them in details - Gbolahan - would you like to drive that process you've already begun?

Just so you know, we're actively refactoring the underlying Mifos codebase with a more layered architecture that will support plug-ins and APIs to connect to other systems more easily.  This approach is actively being discussed mifos-developers and documented on our wiki: http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/EvolvingTheMifosCodeBase

Bamidele, I've uploaded an updated version of our Gap Analysis that you can use.  It's located at http://www.mifos.org/knowledge/resources/deployments/assessment/Gap_Analysis_Survey.xls on  mifos.org.

I also want to point you to our deployment resources on mifos.org which cover the process of deploying mifos successfully across your organization.  Gbolahan is part of Intelligent Network Services Ltd, a local Mifos Specialist, who can assist you with your deployment if Mifos fits your requirements.

Best,

Dear Bamidele .O. Oyebolu,

Good to hear about your interest in MIFOS. MIFOS is a microfinance application that meets most MFI needs. However, since the operations in Nigeria are based on MFB you need to do a proper gap analysis in deploying MIFOS. MIFOS excellently helps in the core banking platform, however you need to decide on the financial applications that will be integrated with MIFOS.

MIFOS business logic fully supports savings and loans, however considering the operations of the Nigerian MFB, you need to have an additional business logic for current account built on MIFOS for you.

Considering the present economic situation in Nigeria, MIFOS will be a good option to have a semi automated solution for your microfinance bank. From there on you can engage firms to gradually build other missing functionality for you over a period of time.

You stand the chance of getting a custom built solution for your microfinance bank over period of time. However if you need immediate solution for full automation based on the situation in Nigeria, MIFOS may not be the best option.

In future, it is believed that MIFOS will integrate with EFT POS for branchless operations, which is what most microfinance banks in Nigeria need.

I hope this response answer some of the questions.

Should you require further information, I will be glad to provide it.

Thank you,
Gbolahan Oshonubi
