Guys i come from Kenya i want to build a universal MPESA and all Mobile money plugin in east Africa. who is interested to join me?

Thanks striking up a conversation on M-PESA on mifos.

In mifos 2.6 product I believe there is existing support for importing M-PESA transactions from a file.

In mifosx - the newest product we havent yet written any integration or done anything specific in relation to third-party software/services but there is a member of the community that is building their product on top of the mifosx platform and creating an M-PESA solution also.

To which software are you referring first of all and secondly, do you have a proposal or clear picture of how you would want to support M-PESA and all Mobile money?

Hi Keith,

Local mobile money in Kenya have an API that we have used in almost all financial institution where clients are able to depost and withdraw funds from their accounts through Mpesa. 

My integration is going to have real time updates on the Mifos to enable clients deposit and withdraw funds in real time as opposed to the manual excel upload that only carters for the deposits. 

i havent done a document yet but i will do it soonest but in a nut shell here is the follow.

Deposits>> client depoists money through the Mifos paybill number >>> the mobile money operator (Mpesa) updates Mifos through a payment gateway >>>> Mifos does the validation and updates the system and sends back the client a confirmation SMS.

Withdrawals >>> client dials the Mifos USSD number, mobile app, or sms >>> Mifos validates the client >>>> User requests for withdrawal amount >>> mifos validates >>> mifos sends to mobile money operator (Mpesa) payment request with the client phone number>>> Mobile money operator sends the money to the client.

I will be setting out time to document this so we can progress it forward to enable mobility in Mifos
