Hello Everyone -

I am wanting to install Mifos X on my MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5.  My desire is to have a test system set up that I can use to develop documentation for my two existing installs.  One install is an Amazon Cloud instance and one install is on a Windows laptop.  The machine I have to work on is my old MackBook Pro and I need help.  I do not have the skill set to properly configure my system to get Mifos to launch.  I am a good end user, but a terrible sys admin.

Is there anyone out there who has the time and the ability to walk me through this install process like I was a 5 year-old?  Better yet - is there anyone out there who can port in and just take over?  OR is there anyone US based that I can ship this to for set up?

Yes - I am getting desperate.  I have tried and tried and I just do not get it.

Thanks!

Dayna,

I'll see if anyone on the list can help you but I could put you in touch with some of the recent Walmart.com volunteer developers who contributed to the project - they all were doing Mac installs and ran into some difficulties which they might be able to help you troubleshoot.

While on the topic of documentation, I also wanted to point you to several quick start guides Nayan and team circulated at summit. They're posted at: https://mifosforge.jira.com/wiki/display/MIFOSX/User+Guide

Thanks Ed!  I have looked at the quick starts - they look very nice.  I am anxious to get this underway.  As always - thanks for the quick reply and help

Dayna,

If you aren't gonna develop on the system, why do you want to install it locally? Why not use the demo servers already hosted online?

Dayna,

As Gurpreet says, there's always the option of using demo server but you probably want to do a clean installation and work from clean database setting up everything from scratch (to document it).

Not sure if any of the current devs from conflux use a Mac (I dont). I know Udai (volunteer) does but hes on holiday. At what stage on the mac to things get hairy for you? java installation? mysql installation, tomcat installation?

Keith.

It would be very surprising for me to see someone instal MifosX server on a Mac machine for production purposes -- especially cash strapped MFIs. I would suggest to keep Mac install notes low priority, and instead work on Windows & Linux install notes, and then MifosX user documentation, etc.

Gurpreet -

The path I have to the demo application does not include the savings products.  Can you provide a path to the full demo, I don't seem to be able to find it.  I can use the demo server to develop most of the Policy & Procedure Manual for my SACCO buddies, but a clean install allows me to document keystroke by keystroke.  I

Thanks so much!

Dayna,

on the demo server to view in development areas you can use the following url: https://demo.openmf.org/?&mode=dev

if you want a clean install i am sure vishwas would be happy to clean down the demo database and you could just use demo server for setup (or are you trying to document technical setup of the software?)

Thank you so much Keith!

The demo system will allow me to address my immediate needs for Wamarafiki.  I was wanting to include screen shots specific to their organization, but I can write around that in their specific users manual.  The newly posted Quick Start Guides are also very helpful.  I will continue to move forward and reach out when I get stuck.

For now, I will set aside the local clean install on the Mac.  The purpose for that was to have a non-internet dependent application available to me when I travel.  The only reason Mac is because I already have one,  I donated my Windows laptops to Wamarafiki to run their operation in Kenya and the MacBook is the only extra machine I have at the moment.

I will get my Procedure Manual done for the SACCO, scrub my Mac and re-address the local install later - sometime before my next travels (TBD).

As always thank you.  I really love the Mifos system and the ease of end-user use.  This is a truly amazing project. You folks are doing such great work.
