Mifos Devs and Community of Users
Just checking, cause I think the answer is no: Is Mifos running a separate github fork downstream of the Fineract(R) project?
As discussed at the Fineract project, we want to encourage everyone to be building from fineract releases, or from the tip ( dev branch). Note that Apache Fineract(R) is a registered trademark of the Apache Software Foundation.
When we (mifos) decided to donate our code - the backend to mifosX - to Apache, and rename it Apache Fineract, we wanted to gain the benefit of a larger community whilst building this one. To do that, I would argue that we must, at Mifos, make sure that the language we use is consistent.
Mifos is a community, a non-profit of that name, and has a set of projects, all of which relate - in some way - to the Apache Fineract(R) project. This of course, makes sense, given the long history. Mifos also bundles Fineract with the Mifos AdminUI into "MifosX" consistent with the Apache 2.0 license (permissive) as well as releasing other bundles like Gazelle.
At times it seems to me that new devs or users come to the project without this understanding and I think we need to do better to explain the nomenclature.
As the creator of this project in 2001, I am proud of the accomplishments, and as we continue to move this forward, I would like to make sure that Mifos remains viable as a bundler of the Apache Fineract(R) project and also clear with its community as to where and how the software is roadmapped, produced, tested, and released.
Thank you
