Hi all,

A few quick questions before we make our final acceptance decisions. I've updated the status on each student in the most recent Google Doc: http://goo.gl/Mhh3PB

I wanted to call out the following changes and a few important questions:

Ishan: potentially switching primary mentor to Vishwas with Nayan as backup
Rishabh: since Michael won't be available as primary, potentially making Nayan primary.

Diunuge: I know we are accepting him and Anuruddha will be mentor but my question was if we don't take Pawan for installer/standalone package, would we put Diunuge on the data migration tool because we thought that was higher user priority?

Pawan: are we still trying to request an additional slot to take him on? I hadn't done so yet and given Michael won't be mentoring - I'm not sure if we'd have capacity - Anuruddha - could you mentor two students?

Oleg: Kakha has been putting him through a bootcamp training of sorts but unfortunately I think we still won't be selecting him.

I'm also in contact with Sahana and Wikimedia to ensure we don't have a duplication with Antonio and Rishabh respectively. UPDATE: I heard back from Wikimedia and no duplicate with Rishabh.

Hi Ed,

Diunuge : Let's assign him to the data migration tool.

Pawan : Yes I'll be able to mentor him as well, let's try to get a slot for him. ( Depending on the interview with Diunuge and what he have demonstrated in the pull request, I feel he needs lesser amount of mentoring; that will give time to mentor Pawan).

Best,
Anuruddha.

Well I heard back from Carol and we got that additional slot very quickly surprisingly. I will update Melange accordingly.

Sorry for last minute question.

As we are selecting Oleg (hope we are :), should he work on Drag and Drop reporting or "SMS integration"?

At present, product point of view "SMS integration" adds more value to our end user than drag and drop reports. I totally agree with point Drag and drop reports is very import feature.

But if we have answer below two questions
1) Does end user has any alternative option for Drag and Drop reports? I feel yes, stretchy reports and pantaho reports can be used.
2) Does end user has any alternative option for SMS integration? I doubt user has any alternative.

And I see "Drag and Drop" needs more business (domain) knowledge (I see Kakha as domain expert ) still to have successful drag and drop reports feature one need to have very proper data model and define relationships. Because Drag and Drop reports should be able generate complex summary/detailed reports.

Where as SMS integration is more of technical work and needs less domain knowledge.

Hi Nayan,

I agree with you about SMS having more value in the short term. This is why we are already picking up outbound SMS integration which is a short term business requirement for one of our clients. Looking at the gsoc projects and students I would not feel comfortable betting on them if a you see a client use case.

Agree that SMS has more value than drag and drop reports and is easier to implement from a technical/functional perspective.

Sander, do you plan to make the work around SMS integration available to the community?

Thanks
Binny

Not sure it is relevant, but Antonio pushed/pulled a git change request that covers basic SMS outbound.  Has that been evaluated and made available?

I too would agree with all that's been said about value regarding SMS integration and that the client use case is so important and so near-term that it's better not taken up for GSOC. I do believe that Sander and the Musoni team are planning to contribute the platform work they take on back to the community.

I also think the Pentaho work might be a bit better suited to Oleg's skill-sets and it will be a valuable exercise for Oleg and the FINA team to become familiar with the Mifos data model and reporting structures given their software for reporting back to the central banks.

Hi Binny,

Yes we are, we will be working on the JIRA items already set up by Michael Vorburger and Keith after the Summit. We will be integrating with our preferred supplier InfoBip as a showcase.
