Hi all,

[NOTE: I cc'd your direct email in case the Google Group isn't coming through our it's automatically getting filed away)

Thank you for taking the time to score and place private comments on the proposals in Melange.

I wanted to propose doing interviews with students starting from Oleg at bottom all the way up to Ishan at the top. I know this makes a total of 10 students we must do interviews but I think based on their interactions and the comments on the proposal, we owe it in fairness to these students to further vet them as they do have the potential of being selected.

If we were to be more selective about the interview process, there's two that potentially wouldn't make the cut - Oleg and Minonshini

Oleg - while he didn't score the highest - I'd like to at least do an interview with to understand his situation because of his existing position as a member of one of our community partners.

Minoshini scored a little higher but there were some clear concerns about overall skillset that I think could be vetted out in an interview

Those that we won't be interviewing were essentially the ones that had no interactions with the community whatsoever.

This would mean each mentor would be on the hook for up to 3 interviews - do you have that availability this week?

Are we fine with interviewing this entire set of ten students?

Could you please email me back the ideals days/times you'd be available.  Apart from Antonio, everyone's time, zone is relatively close by ( UTC+3 - UTC +5:30)

Please also note which students you would like to interview (especially taking into account who you might likely mentor).

We'll post interview times at: http://goo.gl/2mtaiN

If we're all comfortable with these interviews, I will reach out to each student and inform them we'd like to schedule two separate 30 minute interviews via Skype. I will request their available time slots and then we'll line those up with mentor availability and preference.

So to summarize, please respond with the following:

1) Agreement on interviewing ten students (or discussion of concern and desire to interview fewer)
2) Day and Time availability between 3/31 and 4/9 for interviews
3) Preference on students to interview. Each mentor will likely be doing three interviews.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi all,

I want to get in touch with our students regarding interviews so could you give me a quick yes or no to question #1 so I can proceed forward with reaching out to our group of shortlisted candidates.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi all,

In case you're not getting these emails in your primary inbox, Michael jotted down how to enable it so you don't miss these in a secondary inbox:

great thinking - I would not have seen this one otherwise. (I've fixed it now though, if you're on GMail and had the same problem, may be you want to as well; if you haven't already: Drag this thread from the Forums tab, if you use Gmail's new Inbox Tabs, to Primary. It will say: The conversation has been moved to "Primary".  Do this for future messages from mifos-gsoc-mentors.googlegroups.com? Click "Yes" - done.

Michael - thanks for sharing that.

Michael - I don't think you saw it in the last email I sent you - could you send to this list some of the questions you have asked during interviews before?

As an update to everyone, thanks for providing your abilities. I will continue to reach out one on one to get interviews scheduled with those who still have open slots.

The only two students who haven't  shared their availabilities with us have been Minoshini and Oleg so somewhat confirming our commitment concerns with them that we had in the first place.

Ed

Sorry if this is probably too late, but may be useful for future anyways; I've jotted down some notes on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iwTbAkMR9CBEpV_SDCuCWuVVdGMfG8wtKr-ipmnhV9w/edit ... please feel absolutely free to contribute (Anurddha I saw you already did - great!).
