Hi all,

I'm reaching out to all our past mentors to see if you'd like to renew your commitment and if you have any suggestions on others in the community that could serve as a mentor.

When would be a good time to discuss our ideas list? Would Friday of this week at 1300GMT or Tuesday 1300GMT work?

Hello everyone,

The 2015 Google Summer of Code application process is now open for mentoring organizations. We had a remarkable class of seven rock-star interns last summer.

GSOC is one of our largest sources of external contribution each year so the more mentors we have, the more students and projects and we can take on and the more functionality we can deliver to our users!

We're hoping to get accepted for our third year as the independent Mifos Initiative and hopefully bring on even more interns than the 7 last year.

Call for Mentors
We would like to open the door to any of our technical contributors in the community who might be interested in serving as GSoC mentor this year. It's a very worthwhile and rewarding experience but it does require at least 5 hours/week commitment throughout the summer. Email the list if interested in mentoring.

Call for Project Ideas
We also invite any users, implementers, or developers to suggest potential projects or ideas that students could work on - this list is the most important part of our application.  So if you've got a feature you've been hoping to see, a technical enhancement the platform could use or simply an idea you'd like to explore, add it to this hackpad where we're brainstorming out ideas (or share it on the list):

We'll be having a call this upcoming week to discuss and refine these ideas.

All chosen ideas will end up on our official 2015 Google Summer of Code ideas page (I've carried over projects from last year): https://mifosforge.jira.com/wiki/display/RES/Google+Summer+of+Code+2015+Ideas

Our application is due by February 20 so we'll need our ideas list complete and our mentors chosen by then.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi all,

I think the majority of our discussion from the brainstorming from the brainstorming page is incorporated apart from some possible technical enhancement projects and we also still require a project description for the AngularJS Community App Enhancements.

Thanks to Binny, Nayan, Vishwas, and Markus for their inputs.

I've carried over a few projects from last year an updated them but also left a few tentative ones - could we please review those and see if we still want to list those this year.

Our application is due at 1900 UTC on Feb 20 so any inputs before then is gladly appreciated.

Thanks!

Another idea? would be to connect MifosX to jPOS, which is an opensource point of sale system implementation.  Use case would be to get a debit transaction (cash withdraw from checking account) thru the POS device /local runtime with 2FA.

Merchant acquirer gateway concept may be needed on top of MifosX.

+1, this is one of the need feature for payment banks in India

http://rbi.org.in/scripts/bs_viewcontent.aspx?Id=2857

4. Scope of activities

Payments and remittance services through various channels including branches, BCs and mobile banking. The payments / remittance services would include acceptance of funds at one end through various channels including branches and BCs and payments of cash at the other end, through branches, BCs, and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). Cash-out can also be permitted at Point-of-Sale terminal locations as per extant instructions issued under the PSS Act. In the case of walk-in customers, the bank should follow the extant KYC guidelines issued by the RBI.

Thanks and Regards,
