Hey Guys,
Me and Puneet discovered today that the main idea with shopping malls and airports has already been developed pretty well by another company, who already even have an app for La Maquinista available for Android. As a result I am writing an e-mail to the ASCAMM guy telling him that we would rather focus on the WIFI Tag idea since it hasn't been developed yet by others..
Can you guys read it over and give me your opinion on the e-mail that I am sending him? Particularly, should I even ask him to see if he has checked his competitors and to see if his idea is patentable (Nokia, Qualcomm and other companies already have parents and their are allied with the company that developed La Maquinista app). This is because I am telling him that his current efforts seem fruitless in the face of the competition he is facing, and it will be hard to find a good competing business model.
The e-mail I want to send him is the bold letter one
Thanks,
Tomas
Hi Marc,
Regarding Question #1:
Could you please explain a little bit more in detail how researching the WIFI infrastructure would circumnavigate the problem? In terms of money and resources, what is required and how long do you think you would have until you have a working solution for all platforms?
The reason why we ask this is because we took a deep look at the link that you provided and at the company Insiteo.
What we found is that they have developed a platform for all possible different indoor positioning locations. More surprisingly they have developed an indoor positioning platform for La Maquinista which was our suggestion as the most promising business direction, combining the indoor positioning with advertisement and special offers in Shopping Centers.
This is the link to download the app on the Google Play Store:
And unfortunately this was what we initially thought as to what your project should aspire to.
Furthermore, the fact that they have been able to circumnavigate Apple’s location and the fact that they are allied with Nokia, Samsung and major players in the In-Location Alliance will make it difficult to compete directly with them, at least from our perspective.
So we have further follow up questions:
As a result of Insiteo, would you say that your technology is different from theirs so that you can patent it and then license it? Have you also checked additional patents to ensure that you are not infringing them?
Below is a description of their technology: http://www.insiteo.com/joomla/index.php/en/technology/95-insiteo/technology/115-indoor-location-using-wifi-signals
Due to this complication and already established competitors, we were interested in focusing on the WIFI Tag, because we felt it could offer interesting opportunities. This is because it tackles the problem of accuracy which could then be deployed in specific locations or items, something that is not yet completely solved and has easier monetization paths.
We were then wondering if the WIFI Tag would face the same problems with the iOS and Windows Mobile apps? As well, could you provide us with links to some of the current off-the-shelf tags?
Thanks,
Tomas Baronas
