Trouble installing ferret gem.

I get this error message:

Building native extensions. This could take a while...
ERROR: Error installing ferret:
ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

C:/InstantRails/ruby/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb install ferret -y
creating Makefile

nmake
'nmake' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Can anyone explain this to me or, better yet, how to fix it.

I haven't installed Ferret in quite a long time, but I assume that it gives you a choice of platforms when installing. If so, did you pick win32?
