Our first Erlang meeting was a big success! Thanks to Patrick Hurley
for letting us use our home and having pizza and brownies available
for all. We discussed CEAN, YAWS and mostly the problems we face with
Ruby that are handled so nicely with Erlang. For those that missed
out, we've asked everyone to try creating an erlang project that
involves the very powerful process management/communication that
erlang has built in for the next meeting. The project would involve
blackjack, with a process handling the server and a client process to
talk to the server and request blackjack related responses. I also
hope to discuss installing CEAN and reviewing what it is capable of in
the next meeting, and taking a look at the projects that already exist
through this manager such as YAWS and ErlyWeb. Until next week, good
luck with your games!

Thanks for the review Lance.

Thanks for sponsoring the venue and food Patrick. I'll be covering
you (for food) at next weeks Ruby Meeting.

For those that feel a bit intimidated by the tech or the time of doing
the blackjack app with client/server, etc. Try starting out on just a
simple blackjack app.

That's what I'm doing.

I don't know Erlang well enough and time is probably going to be a
constraint. But I'm not going to let that stop me from trying it out.
I'm going to try and make a simple game of 21. No splits. No double
downs, etc. Just nice and simple try to get to 21 without going
over.

So please don't feel like you need to write the whole app. Give parts
of it a try and get something started.
