As you make know, the latest The
New York Times Magazine (Sunday, August 23) was devoted
to issues confronting the world's women with a feature piece, Why Women's
Rights Are the Cause of Our Time by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
As part of the magazine, there is a special box (page 38) called TELL US
YOUR STORY and it reads:
We're delighted to announce a "Half the Sky Contest"
for readers. This special issue of the New York Times Magazine has focused on
women in the developing world, and now we want to hear from you. Have you had
some memorable experience or encounter underscoring the importance of
educating girls, supporting women's health or empowering women around the
world. Any aid organization you've seen (or worked for) that is in the
trenches doing amazing work in this area? And if you're reading this
by candlelight in the maternity clinic you've started in Timbuktu,
tell us about yourself!
Post your entries on Nicholas Kristof's blog at http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/19/drumrollnow-the-half-the-sky-contest/.
Those submitting the three entries we judge the best, along with honorable
mentions, will be recognized and receive signed copies of our book "Half
the Sky." The deadline for submissions is September 23, 2009 and contest
rules are posted on the blog.
Go online and submit your story today, and urge your colleagues to do the
same, so people around the world can read about your experiences and
successes!
