Igot cdimono1.zip in my roms folder, I got a folder in my Mess/roms folder named cdimono1 with the cdimono.zip file, I even unzipped cdimono1 and placed those files both in my roms folder and in my cdimono1 folder. I imported all my Philips CD-i CHDs to launchbox. I added MESS to launchbox as an emulator, specified where the exe file is, and added the cdimono1 -cdrm command line to the associated platforms line. And I'm still getting errors loading any game. What step am I missing? It's my understanding I don't need to specify a bios path if I place the bios files in the roms folder as I couldn't find any line referencing "rompath" in either of the two mess "ini" files that were in the mess folder. Here is the Error:

You don't need to (and shouldn't) unzip any of the MAME (MESS) bios, device or rom zipped files. You probably have an older version of cdimono1.zip and a newer version of MESS. Or you have an incomplete cdimono1 bios set.


cdimono1.zip should have 5 files in it. If there's only 3, it's incomplete and will never work. The 3 yours does have are cdi200.rom, cdi220.rom and cdi220b.rom. If it has 5 files and the other 2 are cdi.bin and slave.bin, you need to have a MESS no newer than 0.221.


There is no cdimono1.zip in either the MAME ROMs non-merged download or in the Software List download that I can find, either for 0.226 which was the last full set I downloaded, or 0.228 which is up currently on pleasuredome. There is only cdibios.zip, which is incomplete at 3 files. Even cobbling together one from various older sources, I can't get it running. is there a definitive source for ALL the BIOS ROMs MAME/MESS has ever used, collected, or a download that holds all of them? I had this problem once before where the NEOGEO BIOS included in MAME sets was not a proper BIOS despite everyone insisting it was...

CD-Ice

CD-Ice was written by Peter Dabbs, one of the developers of the CD-i game Rise of the Robots. Peter used his sources of the game to reimplement the necessary CD-RTOS operating system calls. A preview version is available that supposedly only plays the Rise of the Robots disc, but it is rumoured that with suitable trickery you can also use it to play some other CD-i titles.



CD-i Emulator

The aptly named CD-i Emulator program written by CD-i Fan provides fairly complete hardware emulation of a CD-i player. In order to actually run CD-i software, the emulator needs copies of the CD-i player ROMs which can be uploaded through a seperate program from CD-i Fan called CD-i Link. MAME

MAME, originally the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulators, is a project to preserve decades of software history by documenting the hardware and how it functions in the form of source code.That the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation.MAME is capable of useful CD-i emulation using the cdimono1 driver for Philips Mono-I player ROMs. Visit the Official Site of the MAME Development Team for more information.



CeDImu

CeDImu is an experimental Philips CD-I emulator being written by Stovent.The current sources are available on GitHub; the project is still in a very early development stage. CeDImu uses wxWidgets and compiles on multiple platforms.The eventual goal is to to create libCeDImu, a complete library to allow any program to implement CDI applications.



Other emulators

Several other emulators have been announced but no usable versions ever saw the light of day.


Launch the default.xbe and select the desired console/computer that you want to emulate (A). After that, you will see all the games for that system, and you can select the one that you want to play (A), or create an individual configuration file for that game (X). This is useful in keyboard-based systems, where each game needs a different input configuration.


In the list of systems, you will see that some of them are green, and other systems are yellow. Yellow systems usually need a keyboard to play many games (you can use the Virtual Keyboard if you don't have a real keyboard plugged on your Xbox, and/or create an individual config file for each game, as stated before). Green systems should be easily controlled with a joypad and the generic configuration file.


There are generic controls, and specific controls for each system. Both can be configured. The most important keys are the A and White buttons (they are normally used to Start a game and/or Action button), the Start button (Main Menu) and the Back button (exit/cancel). Pressing both triggers simmultaneously activates the Fast forward (used to make load times shorter in some systems), and moving the right analog stick displays the virtual keyboard.


The virtual keyboard is very useful when you only need to press a key once (for example, if a game says press S to Start) and it is not worth it to map that key to one of the joypad buttons. The virtual keyboard is also useful to type commands (for example, to load games in the computer-based systems).


If you move the right analog stick, the emulation will be paused and the virtual keyboard will appear. You can select the key or keys that you want to press, selecting them with the A button. You can even type a text, pressing the keys one after the other.


If you make a mistake, you can press on the Backspace key (or press the X button) to erase the last pressed key. When you finished entering your text, press B and the virtual keyboard will disappear. The text that you typed will be pasted and the emulation will go on.


Many of these require you to type a few commands to launch a game (LOAD, RUN, CLOAD...). You can see these commands in the README-SYSTEMS-DETAILED.TXT file, but they are often difficult to memorize, so some of the hints can be found in the emulator.


Enter the Virtual keyboard (pressing both triggers). While in the virtual keyboard, press Start and that will activate the hint. Exit the virtual keyboard (pressing B) and the emulator will display a hint about the command that you must use in the current system.


Simply copy your new CHD files in the same folder than the script, and launch chd_revert.bat. The script will create CHD images in the old format (supported by MessoXtras) and place them in a directyory named v140. Simpy copy these generated files in the v140 directory over to your xbox in the roms\cdimono1 folder, and you will be able to play them.
