Greetings Makers!
We are starting to reorganize and optimize the Nerdery and have some great plans for it. One thing we have done is purchased a new 3D printer - a Bambu Lab A1 Mini. The other printers just did not get much use because we do require users to be present the entire print time, and when that time stretches into hours, people have other things to do, plus they were finicky and not very reliable.
The A1 Mini is fast and just prints. For instance, the standard 3D Benchy model with no difference in quality settings (same layer height, line widths, number of walls, infill %, etc) that would take close to 2 hours and 15 minutes on the Elegoo Neptune 2S (previously our newest printer), takes only 43 minutes on the A1 Mini.
The printer will be available for all current members to use at any time, subject to the notes below.
1) Setup is not quite complete, it should be available for use after Tuesday.
2) If you're not familiar with Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer (we will be using Orca Slicer), please find someone who has to run you through how to use it as it is slightly different than Cura or PrusaSlicer.
3) This will be operating in "LAN Only" mode, so you must either slice and put the gcode file on a MicroSD card (if you wish to slice at home) or you must slice and upload it from the Nerdery computer (or your own system that is on the MidsouthMakers Wi-Fi network).
4) Do NOT bind or attempt to bind it to your Bambu Handy mobile app if you already have it installed for a personal Bambu Lab printer
5) The A1 mini's shipping box is currently being used as a dust cover. We will be making/obtaining a more fitted, attractive dust cover in the near future, but for now, put the box back over it when finished using it. Do NOT run the printer with the cover in place - the A1 printers are not designed for this and impacts to the electronics may occur.
6) this is the single-filament only version, we did not get the AMS Lite for multi color
7) The
only approved materials to print on this are 1.75mm PLA, PETG and TPU. No filled/composite materials that require hardened steel nozzles (we may get some hardened nozzles for that type of material in the future, but at the moment we just have the stainless steel nozzle that ships with the printer) or higher temperature materials like ABS, Nylon, etc.
8) If prints do not stick to bed, gently wash the print bed with warm soapy water. Do not clean with IPA or Acetone.
9) As usual, you MUST remain at the space and attentive to the print while it is printing.
10) Unload any filament and turn the printer OFF when finished using it.
Any questions or any issues encountered, please find a board member and notify them, let us know in Discord or email
bo...@midsouthmakers.orgHave fun with the new printer and make amazing things with it!
