I'm suddenly looking for small cutoffs of Aluminum plate, sheet, rod, and eventually other metals if available... talking few inch sizes.  Anyone know of shops in town where such could be obtained inexpensively?

Thanks,

Greg,

I work with extruded aluminum quite often in my business. Specifically, it's usually lineal lengths about 2" wide, about 1/16" thick and varying lengths depending of the cut off scrap. It is factory painted however. To see a sample, go to my website windowjim.com and watch the featured video. The material that I'm cutting in the video is exactly what I'm referring to.

Also I sometimes have scraps of aluminum tube 3/8" O.D. and 1/2" O.D. but not much.

Milling... I now have a CNC Sherline Milling Machine.  If I had kept my casting rig, I'd probably pour my own aluminum to hack on too.  :-)  I may build a new furnace just because of this.  --Greg

Greg,

Congrats on the mill.  I have a lot of spare pieces and tooling that you could borrow.  Are you just looking for scrap to cut?  Anything in particular?

I really appreciate that!  Mostly looking for scrap to do some trial cuts.  My current ideas are all so small that 1" x 2" plates and larger would be perfectly useful, any thickness, and also looking for a 1/2" or so thick piece to use as a tooling plate.  For rod, 1" thick or thicker, any short lengths are ideal for my purposes.  I'd probably be pretty happy with stuff outside these parameters too.  :-)

Thanks,

Greg,

If you want to pass by my house this weekend, you can have a look at my scrap pile and see if anything interests you.
