His Guys,

Just an interim report on the subject of building timer boards for MOSS and DARTS to use in F5J contests.

A key component of any timer board is an item built by Chris Bajorek - a Gliderscore Display Interface circuit board.
I called Chris recently to ask about buying a few of those boards. I ask for three boards plus at least two spares.
Unfortunately Chris only has parts for two boards.

These boards use custom-programmed chips that Chris made many of years age.
The computer that Chris used to program those chips has been ‘decommissioned’ - i.e. no longer available.

I don’t know if the LED display panels are still available but they too are old technology.

Here’s a little bit of history:
The interface between the computer running Gliderscore and the timer board is RS-232 which dates to 1960 !

In my opinion, the most desirable timer board (bright, color display panels) is no longer available.

In a perfect world, someone would design a new timer board with modern interfaces and modern components.

That’s something to think about during this building season.

Regards,

Jay Watkins
