I can barely make out the search box on the google home page. I've played with borders, backgrounds and buttons  but so far I have not found a way to make it easier to see.

You can increase background contrast to make it like this:

Background contrast does not change the page at all. The page is www.google.com so there is no confustion about what page i'm looking at.

I've played with every slider in background settings and nothing changes it. The box follows the bacground color so it stay close to invisible.

I've also tried every slider under borders because you can make out a very feint shadow line around the box  but nothing changes the color or contrast of the border.

It's not critical to me I rarely land on that page and you can just make out the box if you hover your mouse over it.

I don't use this page at all so I did not know about this problem.
You're right it is very hard to see the search bar.
Midnight Lizard changes only colors. If there is no original color at all - it won't be changed.
The search bar has no background and no border at all.
That's why Midnight Lizard cannot change it - there are basically nothing to change.

PS: I don't use this page because I have bookmarked a page with some input in the search bar so I immediately see some search results.
