In the post this morning was the Monthly Guest Ale programme from
Holden's Brewery of Woodsetton. The Black Country brewers are
returning to the 2006 roster so this month you will find Gongoozler at
the counters of their pubs and other discerning free houses.

I have uploaded this month's pump clip to the files section - see
"Holdens-Gongoozler"

This January ale has a morning sunlight in colour, with a delicate
hoppy aroma and a full and malty flavour, which leads to a long dry
and tangy finish. It is brewed using Progress hops and Maris Otter
malt. Gongoozler is a contrasting and contradictory beer. A bruly
taffling brew!

THE TALE BEHIND THE BEER
"Ever since their first appearance, locks on canals have been a source
of fascination, not only as an engineering marvel providing a simple
yet effective means of lifting heavy barges almost vertically, but
also as a hive of activity as handles are turned, paddles lifted and
gates are man hauled. Not surprisingly, therefore, locks have also
proved a magnet to those who like to watch others working and it is to
the most infuriating of these examples that canal folk have given the
name Gongoozler. Often the lock keeper's dim-witted assistant, the
Gongoozler is much more of a hindrance than a help, drifting around
the lock gawping at everyone else working and invariably getting
under everyone's feet and hampering their progress."

Cheers
Kieron
