I think pub names should never be changed, ever if they are politically incorrect. The Labour in Vain is an example. They are part of our history and should remain so. If new owners decide to give premises a new name, does it work anyway. I'm sure locals will continue to refer to the Saracen's Head as just that, just as The Fish in Amblecote will always be The Fish and not the Ruby. Sometimes pubs become known by a nick name, Bull & Bladder, Ma Pardoe's, Mother Shipton's, etc., I still think they should retain the original names though. One that hasn't is the Trumpet at Bilston, which I noticed has been re-badged from the Royal Exchange. ( If I remember correctly.)

Ironically, the Saracen's Head does have a colloquial name. For
generations it has been known as The Napper. However, I cannot imagine
that many contemporary Dudley folk use this term. Such names only seem
to survive when it is a good old drinking den of some notoriety - an
example in Dudley town centre being The Cow Shed at the top of
Wolverhampton Street.
