For those interested in this award-winning pub in Halesowen - good
news, I have put together a history of this popular boozer at
http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/worcestershire/halesowen.htm#Hawne-Tavern
There is plenty of interesting brewery stuff in the history of this
pub.
Cheers

Very thorough as usual. Has Ray acknowledge your hard work in any way?

PS Have a look at page 6 of the beer list at

Yes. It was my idea to research the Hawne Tavern but once I got
started Ray and Mandy got me to put the history into three framed
panels which will go on display in the pub. Although I have delivered
them, I think they're going to decorate the bar before putting them on
the wall. These feature rare images of Plant's and the Hereford and
Tredegar Breweries which I managed to obtain especially for the pub.

One thing I didn't put in the history was my visit to the cellars
below the pub. Looking at the rather crude way the barrel vault
ceiling is put together I suspect that it was dug out after the
building was erected rather than having a purpose-built cellar put in
during the construction in 1870. I might be wrong but it does look
like this to me. This would certainly tie in with the fact that the
shop came first and then the pub, though beer was sold from day one
but as an offie.

Great beer list. I'm jealous. I presume you are attending this event
in addition to the Zythos Beer Festival. In any case, have a good
trip. If anyone else is not aware of them yet - and by all accounts
they are still relatively unknown to the wider world - the Brewdog
beers from Scotland are devastatingly divine and you can, from time to
time, get them in pubs around the Midlands region. Still quite hard to
find them but if you do visit a pub and they have one available don't
miss out!!

Cheers
Kieron
