Dear Clergy and Delegates,

Minutes are attached from our June 29th meeting. Thank you to Ann Pilat and Dianna Deaderick who both took minutes and to St. John's for their abundant hospitality.

Rev. Wayne Kinyon located a list of Standing Resolutions of the Diocese which is what he believes George Chassey was speaking about at the meeting. Canon Chassey asked that the Diocesan Staff and Convocation review those Resolutions to see if they still are and should be in force.

See resolution 6, in particular, as it applies to our budget discussion.

I will also pass on these minutes to the other Convocation Deans and ask them to note our Motion regarding the SOM.

Dear Patricia and all:

I remember being present when a number of these resolutions were passed. I'd like to comment specifically on the resolution about not serving alcoholic beverages socially on church property, which I am sure many are surprised to see. The Rev. Kenneth Morris (St John's, Shandon) either sponsored this resolution or spoke passionately in favor of it for this reason: many of our brothers and sisters battle alcoholism and are in varying stages of recovery. Out of respect for and in solidarity with them, we should refrain from making their lives more difficult by having alcohol on church property. The other concern voiced was that we could be responsible for sending people out on the highways while intoxicated.

I know Cursillo has visited this issue a number of times, and the current policy (I believe) is to be in sync with this resolution during each Weekend (esp agape) for the first reason listed above. Several sponsors have urged Cursillo to do so because they have sent candidates who need to have no alcohol present.

[I am not the person to try to figure out what this means for clergy retreats, and perhaps the policy of each conference center prevails.]

Thank you. This is very helpful. So many of us came to the diocese after some or all of these resolutions were passed. Hearing from people’s memories on each of these would be very useful.
