Thanks for this truly useful utility!

I'm not sure why but the 32 and 64 bit installers are mutually exclusive (1.0.10). Would it be possible to change this to have both versions available in the same system? I work with both 32 and 64-bit hosts and it would be really useful to me. Thanks!

Hey Steve,

Yeah I don't think there is a good reason that you can't install both. Unfortunately it not that easy to fix so I may not get around to it any time soon. I created an issue here for it though: https://code.google.com/p/midi-shape-shifter/issues/detail?id=33

This is a workaround (hack) but it involves changing your registry so if you try this out be careful.

To get both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed you can do the following:
1. Install either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of MSS
2. Press the windows key, search for "regedit" and press enter.
3. In the registry editor navigate to: "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Intsaller\Products"
4. Right click on Products and click "Find..."

5. In the find dialog search for "midi shape shifter" and click find next

6. This should highlight a folder in the left pane. Verify that both the ProductName in the right pane and the path in the status bar at the bottom match the following screenshot. Then right click the highlighted folder and select delete.

7. Now you should be able to install the other version of MSS. Note that you may want to back up your presets/programs if you have created any custom ones.

If your up for trying that let me know how it goes.

Thanks Rob, that worked perfectly. I installed 32-bits first, fixed the reg and then installed the 64-bit version. One for the FAQ's... I assume the presets are common to both versions?

What I tried doing in the interim before your post, was installing the 64-bit version first, copying the dll's and the data folders, installing the 32-bit folders and putting the 64-bit files back in place. This worked but for some reason doing this wiped out the preset data, though not the folders. Doing it as above worked and preserved the presets. Maybe there's no presets installed with the 64-bit version?

Thanks also for the quick reply. :)

Yeah you should be able to reuse the presets between both versions.

The installer creates an entry in the registry that tells the VST where to look for the presets. So when you uninstalled the 64-bit version, it removed that registry entry. That's why even after restoring the presets folder the VST couldn't find it.

Anyway glad you got it working and hopefully I'll have a solution that doesn't involve tampering with the registry in the future.
