MSS at the host level, and not as a VST ?

Hi Rob,

I am using MSS to parameterize CC values from a few external HW controllers, and my DAW is Sonar.  MSS works great to control VST instruments.  But it does not work with VST FX which reside in the FX bin in Sonar.  A way around this would be if MSS could work as a GUI outside of the DAW.  You had mentioned in a forum post about two years ago that MSS is based on a framework (VST.NET).  How feasible is it for MSS to work outside of the DAW, at the OS level, instead of a VST inside of the DAW?  (Hopefully my question makes sense, not sure how "correct" is my terminology of "inside" and "outside" the DAW).

Thank you,

Todd

Hey Todd,

I always planned on creating a standalone version of MSS but never found time to do it. It would be quite a bit of work so I don't see myself creating it any time soon.

Maybe you could run MSS in a lightweight VST host (e.g. VstHost) outside of Sonar and connect them up with something like MidiYoke

Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Thanks Rob.  I'll try the VSTHost route.  Sonar is a great DAW but definitely a weak area is in MIDI routing.

Re. the work to do the standalone version, have you considered doing a survey in KVR, Gearslutz, etc.?  I'll bet there is a genuine need for something like this.  I would pay for a commercial version.
