Sorry if this is a double post, my browser closed unexpectedly.

Here's how to create a playlist without being able to hold down your
"x" button:

Create a playlist from a section header like "123" or "Warmup" by
selecting the header and hitting the green tom, then back off the
songs with the snare. You can then fill up the playlist with whatever
you want just like you did with RB2.

Sorry if this was obvious to everyone but me. Scott, hopefully this
will save you having to update the firmware to add some convoluted
hold-down-x support.

Oh crap, I neglected to actually play the set list I created, and it
turns out I can't initiate the set list without holding down X. Ugh,
sorry guys.

Not sure why they had to change all that. I'm still figuring out all
the "voting" and song list selection controls myself.

I'll have it all sorted out in the next few days and will put together
a firmware update to address it. I'll be updating the firmware and
software for all the MIDI Rockers (LX and original).

Thanks,

Hey Scott - be sure to let us know if there is anything any of us can
do to assist in getting keyboard and pro guitar mapped out. I'm
guessing that once you get one figured out the other will just fall
into place.

beta testers at your service.

Indeed, although I think that Guitar Pro will probably be much more
tricky because the fret information for the Fender guitar is encoded
in special MIDI SysEx messages it is not just MIDI notes (I don't know
about the Mustang).

Thanks! It's really helpful to have help testing -- my son helps a lot
(he's a better drummer than I am), but he's more interested in just
playing the new songs than trying out the menu controls etc...

I think I'm figuring out the new controls in RB3 -- there are more
ways to create and edit songlists than what is shown on the screen.
For example, on the Playstation:

[] (SQUARE) is used to change the "rating" for a song, you can hit the
BLUE CYMBAL for this.
/\ (TRIANGLE) is used to "view more info" about a song, you can hit
the YELLOW CYMBAL for this.

The keyboard is proving to be a tough nut to crack. By default, it
doesn't send out any keypress data over the USB connection, so I think
there must be some code that has to be sent to it to enable the data
transmission. I've got some ideas for how to figure this out, so
hopefully it won't be too much longer before the MIDI Rocker can be
used to play the keyboard parts.

The MIDI Rocker can already be used with the Yamaha EZ MIDI guitars,
so the firmware can already process the SysEx messages to extract fret
and string data. Hopefully the Fender guitar uses a similar method --
if so, it shouldn't take too much work to get it working with the MIDI
Rocker.

You can use one of the Yamaha EZ guitars to play RB or GH right now on
the Playstation, but not in Pro Mode. I need to get my hands on one of
the new guitars first to see how the data is formatted when sent to
the console over USB in Pro Mode. The MIDI Rocker is able to decode
the MIDI SysEx messages to extract the string & fret data, but I don't
know yet how to format that data and send it to the game for Pro Mode.
Once I've figured it out, you'll be able to use the Yamaha guitar for
Pro Mode.

Howdy Scott.

My second LX is here along with an EZ-EG I was finally able to snag off ebay.

Have you been able to figure out how to make Pro-Mode work yet?

I'm still trying to crack the protocol used for Pro-Mode (both guitars
and keyboards). They are definitely using some sort of special scheme to
try and make it so nothing but the MIDI Pro adapter can be used to play
Pro Mode guitar and keyboard, but I haven't given up yet.

In the meantime I may take another approach and use the LX with the MIDI
OUT option to translate the MIDI data sent out by the EZ guitar into the
equivalent data that is sent by the Mustang guitar, that way, you could
plug the EZ into the LX, and the LX into the MIDI Pro and it will work
to play Pro Mode guitar -- it's a little clunky, but would get me a step
closer.

Hi Scott. If you can achieve that (midi pro + lx ), considering the low quality of the squier guitar it will be a blessing:) i'm looking forward to it I don't want to spend 250€ for the squier so far

I'm not very aware of the midi guitar world, but taking apart the Yamaha range, all the guitars in the world that offer midi possibilites could work that way, if I understand it well?

Hi Guys

i've found something called the Roland GK3. From what I understand, it's a midi thing that you can "plug" on any metalic cord guitar, and it'll translate things to midi.
Any of you know about that? I may buy one alongside the madcatz pro component and check if it's working, if you need that, Scott.

My understanding is that the GK-3 requires a special module to process
the signal from the GK-3 pickup into MIDI data, creating what Roland
calls a "V Guitar System". Last I checked, it was a pretty expensive
way to go, although it has the advantage of being able to work on
almost any guitar. I'm not sure if the data from the V Guitar setup is
compatible with the MIDI Pro.

Since the LX with MIDI OUT can easily convert the MIDI data from a
Yamaha EZ guitar into the data needed by the MIDI Pro I'm going to go
ahead and implement that functionality. If anyone has a Mustang or
Squire guitar they could lend me to test with, I'd be very grateful --
I have 2 EZ guitars already (as well as several other acoustic and
electric guitars) and my wife would not be real happy right now if I
went out and bought another!

Once I have the EZ-to-MIDI Pro conversion working, I will get back to
cracking the code for making the MIDI Rocker work as a keyboard in
RB3.
