Hi,

I have a TD20SX with a VH-12 hi-hat, coupled to the original Midi
Rocker.

My problem is the following: when I close the HH, the fact that the
top and bottom cymbals go from separated to "touching" creates enough
of a hit to have the brain pick up a HH note. This results in either a
"Closed HH" or "Open HH" note (I get both) being relayed by the MR to
the PS3 - which is obviously unwanted.

I thought the brain would be smart enough to be able to tell apart the
2 stimuli:
- 2 cymbals closing -> foot splash
- me hitting with a stick -> open or closed HH (based on the variable
read from the pedal position)

Here's what I did:
- made sure the "foot splash" not was not in my MR maps so the MR
doesn't relay anything when the brain generates those MIDI notes
- increased the threshold level on the HH so the brain doesn't pick
small hits (it makes me work harder on the hat with the sticks!)

...but somehow this is not enough, I still get extra notes I don't
want.

Any ideas how to deal with this? I presume anyone with a VH11 or VH12
would have the same issue? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

I'm playing a VH11 on a TD12 and haven't found a perfect solution as
yet either.
Basically did the same thing you did.
Attempted to adjust the footsplash on the TD12, made sure no foot
controller in the yellow, changed the threshold.
For the most part it works. Works better in Rockband than in GH.
An alternate work around - if you tend to mostly use the rim hit on
the HH is to not program in anything but rim notes.
Not the greatest but worth a try.

I'm not in front of my td20, but off hand I can tell you a quick fix.
In the HH settings (on the brain) lower the OFFSET level (normally +20
or so). I had to use a -30 offset number in the past few months, since
then I've tweaked some settings and have my offset back to +18 and no
more strange hits. I know I've changed my midi number on the foot
pedal, turned down sensitivity on the HH and opened the HH just a
little bit bigger. Now all works great with the VH12 doing yellow and
blue and no hits on closing the pedal.

If you still have problems, I can post my brain settings.

It had been a while since I had played with my brain settings, but
your post prompted me to play with it a bit more. Unfortunately, I
made things worse, and to add insult to injury, I didn't keep track of
the settings I had before I started tweaking it today... ouch :-(

I'd really appreciate if you could post your brain settings!

Thanks in advance!

If you didn't tweak too much, then I would do a factory reset to get
back to normal.

My Settings are:
Setup - Midi - CTRL: HH note border# : 80

Trigger - Basic (hit HH - so your in HH settings)
Sens:8
Thres:5
Curve: Linear

Trigger - HH
offset: +18
foot splash: +4
noise cancel: 3
CC res: normal

Trigger - Xtalk (hit HH - should be #7)
#7 = off

Trigger - Adv
scan time: 1.6
retrig: 3
mask time: 4

(I believe this is everything I played with, however with Roland
brains so deep with options, I could have played with another setting
somewhere)

All the above works great for me. As mentioned in my previous post;
opening the HH a little more than usual helped as well (certainly
experiment to see what works best for you). I'm also using a little
older firmware and Gui for the LX. Once I got everything the way I
like, I don't update. I do the same for computers, if it works, leave
it alone....

Just remembered that the GUI has a settings tab that you can play
with. I do suggest leaving the GUI open and go to drum test while
changing parameters. This works great rather than having the game on
to do your testing.

Post back and let us know how you made out.

Thanks Lakers Fan!
I will try it out and report my findings.
