[soon to come-- Real Majority Rensselaer, Real Majority Warren,
Real Majority Washington, Real Majority Essex, Real Majority Greene,
Real Majority Delaware, Real Majority Otsego; updates soon]
Here were my campaign kickoff events yesterday to launch our Real
Majority group in Saratoga County:
-- (Weds. Aug. 10th) at 11 am at MoveOn "Where are the Jobs"
Rally at Albany's Capital West Park with Rep. Paul Tonko and Upstate
NY MoveOn.org Coordinator Joe Seeman and many more
["A demonstration outside of the Saratoga office of
Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-20), protesting his labor/economic voting
record. Give Chris Gibson some ideas on how to create jobs and ask him
why he voted for a budget that would cause the loss of 700,000 more
jobs."]
Note ten polls just below-- irrefutable proof that Gibson has
been ignoring what most Americans want.
I know I can win by replicating successful campaign strategy
employed by Kathy Hochul in 26th.
[I had crowd of 80 Dems at Columbia County Dem picnic singin' and
chantin' along with me this past Sunday in Greenport-- "say it
with some authority-- WE ARE THE REAL MAJORITY"!...c'mon,
folks!]
Gibson has no excuse for voting July 19th for the House GOP
majority's Cut, Cap, and Kill Medicare bill-- a stealth attack on
Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid that would destroy 700,000
jobs (aside from his voting for House Budget Committee Chair Paul
Ryan's draconian budget earlier this year:
Yes, Chris Gibson is a good man-- but in no way, shape, or form
is he standing up for us on these ten:
Fact #1: 81% of Americans support taxing millionaires/billionaires
more to solve federal budget problems.
Fact #2: 78% of Americans support protecting Medicare, Social
Security, and Medicaid from any cuts.
Fact #3: 59% of Americans support expanding Medicare to cover us all--
to save $400 billion a year.
Fact #4: 67% of Americans support $10-an-hour minimum wage to put
money in pockets of working class.
Fact #5: 53% of Americans support full federal funding for Planned
Parenthood and reproductive justice.
Fact #6: More New Yorkers support protecting our drinking water with
statewide ban on fracking than not.
Fact #7: 54% of Americans support full funding for the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency-- not cuts.
Fact #8: 79% of New Yorkers support Clean Money Clean Elections-- real
campaign finance reform.
Fact #9: 80% of Americans support amending the Constitution to make it
clear-- corporations aren't people.
Fact #10: 59% of Americans support our troops coming home from
Afghanistan and Iraq now without delay.
Pass it on!...
Joel
444-0599/876-2488
p.s. Still pertinent-- FDR didn't get us out of Depression with
budget cuts, layoffs, and union-busting!...
[I'll be walking CWA picket line again this morning in Dutchess;
walked CWA line up in Albany yesterday!]
[on that note-- I was successful in getting my colleagues, County
Legislators Dan Kuffner, Barbara Jeter-Jackson, Alison MacAvery, Steve
White, Jim Doxsey, to sign on to my CWA solidarity letter Mon.:
[again: must-read: "Verizon Showdown Calls for New Strike
Tactics" In These Times/CWA's Steve Early:
["Over the last four years, Verizon has made $19 billion in
profits while paying its top five executives $250 million in
compensation and bonuses. Verizon made dramatic concessionary demands
to kick off bargaining and never moved. Now you are refusing to
bargain with the CWA & the IBEW. That's why 45,000 of your
employees aren't at work, but will return once you agree to bargain
fairly. Please drop your unfair demands and return to the
bargaining table to negotiate a new contract in good
faith."]

"County Dems Meet Their Candidates" By W.T.
Eckert
Hudson-Catskill Newspapers
HUDSON - Columbia County Democrats gathered Sunday for the 58th
annual Columbia County Democratic Committee Picnic at the Federation
of Polish Sportsmen to meet its candidates in this November's
elections.
Mingling over hot dogs, corn on the cob and frosty beverages,
candidates and their supporters had the opportunity to get to know one
another and the issues that mattered most to them.
Opposing first-term Rep. Chris Gibson, a Republican, in next
year's congressional race, is Dutchess County Legislator Joel
Tyner.
"Are we going to take this district back?" Tyner asked the
crowd. "I can't do it without you. We need to set up real majority
organizations in the 10 [counties in the 20th District]. We need a
real majority organization in Columbia County."

"Dem Confirms Congressional Run"
Joel Tyner, a Democrat who serves on the Dutchess County Legislature,
confirmed he will announce his candidacy for Congress at a rally at
4:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the Saratoga Springs district office of
U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook.
Tyner said he lives about 15 or 20 minutes from the Franklin D.
Roosevelt National Historic Site and wants to bring FDR's policies
back to prominence.
Tyner, first elected to the county legislature in 2003, is
serving his fourth two-year term on the county legislature, a
comparable government body to county boards of supervisors in the
Glens Falls region.
Read more about his candidacy on Wednesday in The Post-Star print
and Kindle editions.

"Gibson May Have Dem Challenger"
U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, apparently has his first
potential Democratic challenger in the 2012 election cycle.
MoveOn.org, a liberal political advocacy organization, announced
that Dutchess County Legislator Joel Tyner, "Democratic candidate
for Congress for the 20th District" will speak at a rally at 4:30
p.m. Wednesday outside Gibson's district office at 513 Broadway in
Saratoga Springs.

Accomplishments in the Dutchess County Legislature Over the Last
Eight Years:
[proven results-- from ability to effectively work across party lines
w/GOP]
-- The Town of Rhinebeck is now (and has been for over six
years)
part of the Greenway Compact.
[recall-- recent Greenway grant funding for sidewalk improvements
in
Village of Rhinebeck; over $100,000 in county funding for
Rhineson
property for town park after Rhinebeck joined Greenway Compact;
Rhinebeck Town Board had been dead-set against joining Greenway
Compact]
-- got my resolution passed 22-2 to push County Exec to delay no
further; appoint County Historian
-- got my resolution passed unanimously in March to save millions
of
county tax dollars by avoiding needless jail expansion
[see
http://www.JobsNotJails.we ebly.com/ -- multiracial coalition
Joel's created]
-- got County Exec and County Legislature in 2004 to stop homeless
veterans from being turned away from overnight shelter
-- succeeded in keeping county funding steady for Mental Health
America's Court-Appointed Special Advocate program for foster
kids
-- working with our county's Health Department and Ferncliff
Nursing
Home to make sure seniors' rights are fully respected
-- back in 2004 and 2005, during his very first term in office,
with
only 8 Dems and 17 GOP county legislators, I got resolutions
passed
unanimously for a health insurance group discount committee, for
IBM
to protect retirees' health benefits, for a public hearing on
St.
Lawrence Cement, to protect wetlands, and purchase of wind power.
-- back in 2005 I successfully initiated move for our
county's
Consumer Affairs website to expand with gas and prescription
drug
price information, and for AED defibrillator discount program as
well
-- for eight years now researched/educated public re: MTBE water
contamination in Rhinebeck and Clinton
Full list here of twenty different resolutions I got passed in
2008 and 2009 (many with GOP support):
1. For Independent Dutchess Energy Alliance: $1 billion in savings
on
electric bills over ten years.
[based on successful green jobs/retrofits example of Cambridge,
MA-- see
2. For Dutchess to save literally hundreds of thousands of
dollars
annually on power costs w/Municipal Electricity Gas Alliance
(like
Putnam, Ulster, Sullivan, and twenty other counties).
3. For saving 30% on lighting bills in county buildings
switching
fixtures from T-12's to T-8's/metal halides.
4. For Dutchess to keep using lever voting machines and
state/federal
gov.'t to make sure we can too.
5. For zero-waste approach to resource recovery in our county:
save
money, create clean green jobs.
[see over 90 other Dutchess residents on board this-- at
6. For cost-saving green roofs, rain gardens, wind turbines,
composting toilets to be on county property.
7. For solar panels on County Office Building/22 Market
St./Poughkeepsie (then all county buildings).
9. For Dutchess to hold Home Heating Summit re: home heating oil
crisis (as in Ulster, Orange co.'s).
10. For Dutchess Environmental Science Advisory Network
"Recommendations for Stream/Flood Management in Dutchess" to
be followed.

markets/green resources (as in Westchester).

(as
is already in Washington, D.C.).

Preservation Act to save open space.
14. For cost-saving "Green House Project" nursing home in
county--
proven to make seniors happier.
15. For particulate matter air pollution to be measured in
Dutchess
County as it was until 2002.
[

16. For greatly expanding current circuitbreaker for school
property
taxes (bipartisan Little/Galef bill).
[

Property Tax Relief and Reform Act.
18. For ending secret market manipulations on Wall Street causing
