This session, organized by the MELA Committee on Cataloging, will focus on creating and enhancing name authority records for corporate bodies, with a special emphasis on the challenges and strategies when dealing with non-Latin scripts—especially Arabic and Persian.

Presenter Bio: Adam L. Schiff is Principal Cataloger at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, Washington. He has an M.L.I.S. from the University of California, Berkeley and an A.B. in biological sciences from Cornell University. Prior to coming to the University of Washington, he worked at the California Academy of Sciences Library in San Francisco and the University of Colorado, Boulder Libraries. Adam serves as NACO, SACO, and BIBCO coordinator and is a NACO trainer for PCC. He currently serves as one of two representatives from ALA to the North American RDA Committee (NARDAC). He has served on numerous PCC task groups and committees, most recently on the Task Group for URIs in MARC Implementation and Support, SCT Task Group on Linked Data Training, and SCS Task Group on Evaluation Guidelines for Non-Latin Script References in Name Authority Records. He participated in creating some of the RDA Metadata Guidance Documentation and is the author of the SACO Participants' Manual. He is a co-chair of the SACO Gender and Sexuality Funnel and a past chair of the ALA Cataloging Committee: Description and Access (CC:DA) and the MARBI Committee (predecessor to the MARC Advisory Committee).
