Dear MAT friends,
Last Thurs evening while some of
you were enjoying Dave’s comedy at Open Mic, I was at a very informative OfA
(Organizing for Action) team leader meeting. As a result of that meeting I
received the info below on a possible film for us to show at an evening event on
Tues, Aug 13 or as close to that date as possible. We would want to
publicize this to public and press.
Please open the link and
be prepared to help decide whether this is the film we want to choose.
Also, I am currently spread too thin and need someone to step up and volunteer
to chair this planning team. At tomorrow morning’s
meeting we need to get people on a planning team for a climate change event and
get someone to chair, or this won’t get effectively planned.
There are a couple people from other local OfA teams who are willing to
help. If you are interested, but will not be at tomorrow’s meeting, please
let me know.
I ended up involved in trying to
plan an event commemorating the shooting at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek.
Since there is also a Sikh temple in Middleton and I know our local favorite
Sikh (Gurdip) and Rev. Linda Ketchum from Madison Urban Ministries, who is
willing to help plan a commemorative service, I ended up involved in trying to
pull that together. Milwaukee OfA folks are planning three events to occur
on Aug 3, 4, &5.
From the 350.org
site: The Do The Math documentary is a 42-minute film about the
rising movement in the United States to change the terrifying maths of the
climate crisis and challenge the fossil fuel industry. While it is set in the
United States, the maths the film outlines apply globally -- making it important
for all of us to watch. It is in English with the option of subtitles in French,
German, Portuguese or Spanish.
Why host a screening?
Film is a great
tool for organizing and mobilizing our movement for action. By hosting this
screening and discussion, the film should spark dialogue and action in
communities across the world. We must understand the terrifying maths of global
warming, promote just solutions and fight dirty fossil fuel
projects.There is a tab
on the website for Resource materials, including a poster.
