Does anyone know specifics on this?  I called Sen. Risser's ofc and he is against this proposed legislation.  The aide who aswered my call said this is more aimed at protecting the owners of nursing homes and long term care facilities.  Personally I am not against some protection for the employees who work with those who are in nursing homes and do sometimes make false accusations.
The bill can be found at www.legis.wi.gov

ALERT! TAKE ACTION NOW! The Wisconsin legislature is meeting in a special session and considering a major piece of legislation designed to limit lawsuits in Wisconsin. The bill (Assembly and Senate Bill 1) is the first piece of legislation introduced this year and is jointly sponsored by the Governor, the State Senate and the State Assembly.

Part of the proposed law would dramatically change all the ground rules for using legal avenues to address instances of nursing home abuse. The bill covers many topics, but there are nursing home provisions included that make it significantly harder to hold nursing homes accountable. The bill restricts the ability of the residents of nursing home and other long-term care facilities to obtain appropriate compensation for injures, neglect and abuse. It also denies families access to reports that show a pattern of abuse or mistreatment. Both houses of the state legislature are expected to vote on SB1/AB1 early this week.

A vote in the Senate is expected on Tuesday (January 18) followed by a vote in the Assembly on Thursday (January 20).

Your action is urgently needed! Please call or email your State Senator and State Assemblyperson and urge them to vote NO on Senate Bill 1 and Assembly Bill 1.

Thank you.
