Tonight, I was kegging some Pilsner (which brought upon some fun challenges as my 5# co2 tank ran empty luckily I had another) and drinking some IPA whilst reading the new Zymurgy and came across a short article that illustrated what some other clubs were doing to explore home brewing during the pandemic. They call it the Brewers Thumbprint Challenge. The premise is that we all use the same ingredients (grains hops yeast) to brew the same style of beer (the article was APA). We all must use all of the ingredients but factors such as water profile yeast pitch rate hop additions mash temp boil time fermentation are all up to the brewers discretion. I think it would be a fun challenge to get us all engaged in the club and see how different we can all make the same beer. I know we’re getting close to the season where it’s very tough to brew outside so maybe something for next year?

On this same train of thought we wanted to do the yeast experiment this year but stupid COVID screwed that all up. Our thoughts were to brew one base wort and split batch into 2 gallon batches so members could use whatever yeast strain they wanted. I myself would still like to do this experiment it is just getting together to brew base wort.

Hey Everyone,

I have a cousin that wants to set up a nitrogen tap. I tried to talk him out of it but he’s not listening to me. Does anyone have any recommendations or used equipment they are looking to sell? It seems pretty expensive and restrictive to dedicate one line to nitrogen but I guess I’ve done worse things. Also, where do you get nitrogen refilled? Thanks for any advice.
