From time to time Vericut license server loses the licenses it distrubutes and when we try to open Vericut from the clients we get a error "There is a license server running but no licences...", or something like that. Then I have to remotely connect to the license server and run the .bat "Update licenses on the license server" and then it works again.... I don't need to stop the service or anything like that.. just run the .bat...

The path for the license file (variable LSERVOPTS) was not defined in the server environment variables. The reason why the interval between the incidents were so big it's because we seldon restart our server. But once we did, upon the startup the Sentinel service could not find the license file, and therefore no licenses were available, although the license server was running.

A valid Windows Host ID is 12 characters and contains only 0-9 numbers and A-F alpha characters
A utility program called hostinfo.bat is provided with the VERICUT installer. This program displays the Host ID.

Should you have any problems retrieving the proper Host ID information, please contact Technical Support What is a Redundant Server?Redundant server uses three (3) computers that communicate with each other to act as one logical VERICUT license server. A redundant license server requires that you request special licensing. Three separate computers and corresponding host IDs and host names must be provided. The three computers do not have to be the same platform type. Please contact your Sales Engineer for more information.

I usually work from home and some of our applications are floating licenses across the organization. We have servers floating licenses on a global schema, such as Pro/E global bundles, and some others are floating licenses via servers in our location. So for Pro/E I grab licenses from Europe and U.S as well as Brazil, as our license agreement with PTC allows us to float globally.

TopSolid for example is floated locally, as well as VERICUT - We have also Pro/E licenses floating in a local server here, but most of time they are in use, so its common to get them from our license servers in Europe due to the time zone differences...

The Sentinel servers for VERICUT and TopSolid are installed in our local servers here in Brazil, and we have two different servers running Sentinel locally - One for VERICUT and one for TopSolid. Because Missler dont work with MAC licensing - They use dongles.

That being said, I can work from home via VPN and grab licenses for Pro/E and TopSolid. As I said above, many times the Pro/E license I grab is not even from our local servers... and our VPN covers the entire company network, so it does not matter where the licenses are, as long as I can ping the server from home, I can get a license from it...

So here is the deal: VERICUT never works for me via VPN. I can ping the local engineering server where VERICUT Sentinel is running and the ping interval (ms) is always better than the interval I get when I ping a PTC license server in Europe or U.S. Its not as fast as a local connection of course, but good enough even for a decent remote session...

However, from home I can grab a license for Pro/E from a server outside Brazil, I can grab a license for TopSolid (Also uses Sentinel technology - But running on a different, however local machine) but I cannot grab one for VERICUT. VERICUT starts and return that "A license server was found but there are no licenses on it" - Im sure the server is running and the licenses are installed and available, because I can access the server via remote desktop (RDP) and I see they are there... another day I called a colleague using VERICUT to make sure he could open it in the company and he said "Yes, Im using it right now."

I double checked my settings and they appear to be aligned with what you said - I have LSHOST set with the same IP in both cgtenv.bat and in the O/S system variables... I need to have this in order to have ProEV grabbing licenses correctly...

I don't know if the fact Missler uses a more recent version of the Sentinel server was the key here or if it was something in the previous VERICUT server... By the way: Windows Firewall was disabled on the old server...

I know this is an old post but I'm having an issue getting a license with VPN.
Do you happen to remember what the security policy issue was?
We have contacted support and so far nothing has worked. My IT says the request is not making it to the server but if I ping the server they can see that.

A Cloud License is an optional alternative VERICUT licensing method. Your VERICUT License is hosted on a CGTech License Server instead of on your own server. As long as you have access to the internet, you can access and run the software on your computer. The License Server expires when Maintenance expires.

"I have been thoroughly impressed with CG Tech's enduring attention to detail, outstanding technical capabilities, and most importantly, their unwavering commitment to client service."

"CG Tech tells me where they are in the troubleshooting and resolution process and keeps me appraised of progress or setbacks. They have quickly resolved issues where others gave up."

So he made a change. He began working as the IT Director for a small non-profit company called Arts Corps. This amazing organization allowed Eugene the flexibility to slowly grow his independent computer consulting business while he revamped their office computer systems. As his work at Arts Corps reached completion, his independent consulting business grew and he was ready to create CGBdesign, now CG Tech Services, Inc., in Fall 2004.

Thanks to positive word-of-mouth, business steadily prospered. The one-man company grew into a client-focused group of technology specialists who share a common interest: collaborating with clients to create technology solutions that truly fit their business needs.

Responsible for handling second level support and service requests. The role is responsibility for network analysis and design, technology support, client support. There source will be required to provide top level support for any network issues ranging from implementation of new networks, troubleshooting outages for local and remote networks. Additional responsibilities include handling second levels support and service requests related to all supported technology including but not limited to: workstations, servers, printers, and Office applications.

For a long time our team were using USB dongles for some specific applications and the dongles were going from one hand to another... that was not a good thing but my hands were a bit tied: I could not float the licenses because some apps don't have this option and also because some apps like CrashGuard Studio we have just one license, and no plans to increase since we also have Vericut.

I was recommended to use this, bought one and now I don't worry about people forgetting our dongles in their pockets and going home anymore... or when they locked the dongles in their lockers and went home in a Friday and the other programmer showed up at Saturday and needed the dongle... oh boy...

I have no association with this company... I'm just sharing a solution for a common problem... I'm using it here with TopSolid, CrashGuard Studio and VAM Threads... Missler, the makers of TopSolid recommended it to us as they refused to issue our licence based on a MAC address, since we use a virtual server...

I imagine that is what nethasp is doing, using the host computer as a dongle server since you still need the physical device attached. If just running Mastercam you wouldn't need dongle-server. Nethasp is cool IMO, one of the most useful advances in Mastercam history.

Not sure if this has changed but AFAIK Mastercam Nethasp is basically a floating license server for Mastercam... They issue you a key file based on a dongle ID to be run on a license server in your network - This dongle with a specific ID needs to be attached to the license server computer and the license server service will issue / deny licenses for clients across the network... this is a common scenario...

In our case, we have applications that do not support floating licenses or the number of seats is so small that it's not worth to float them... so the schema was basically plug/unplug the dongle in the PC of each user...

We were not happy with that (Risky for the software vendors and for us) but it was working... then we wanted to install TopSolid license server in a virtual server and Missler refused to issue keys for it... most vendors don't make objections to that, and CNC Software can be one of them. We have Vericut licensed to the MAC of a virtual server and CGTech is OK with that... moreover, our IT security policy prohibits the attachment of any USB device to a server farm... and this is our case with the virtual servers...
