I recommend recording your bike's make, color and number as you would your car so if it is missing or stolen you can report it to Middlebury Police Dept (MPD). Take and file a photo so this can be emailed or shown to them. MPD keeps bikes reported as stolen or missing that they have collected at the Middlebury Police Station at 1 Lucius Shaw Lane. There are quite a few there right now. Most were seized recently from a person who was stealing them and warehousing them. The problem is they don't have matching theft reports and they don't know who owns many of them or even what town they were stolen from. Middlebury Safe Routes with Frog Hollow Bikes has permission to gather bikes left unclaimed for over a year and offer them for sale at the Middlebury Bike Swap to benefit Midd Safe Routes. People will be given a chance to view the bikes and claim their missing or stolen one prior to and at the Swap. The Midd Bike Swap is planned for early May at Cannon Park. Watch for details. Meanwhile, report abandoned bikes to MPD and keep your bike secured. Invest in a good lock and consider these tips: Cycling Expert Advice: Bike Security
