Winter Walk and Roll Day, THIS Wed, Feb 2
Middlebury Safe Routes to School volunteers will recognize Mary Hogan School students as they arrive 7:40 to about 8:05. Look for our steadfast crossing guard Donna Woods on Rt 7 and the "yellow banana." Form walking school bus routes from your neighborhoods. Walk or bike to work this day in solidarity. This is part of a statewide effort coordinated by our friends at Local Motion to celebrate and encourage winter walking and biking. More here. They're also organizing at VT Winter Bike/Walk Challenge with Go!VT and others. See below.Inline image

VT Winter Bike/Walk Challenge, Jan 31- Feb 11
The Challenge starts THIS Monday and runs through Friday, February 11th, concluding on International Winter Bike to Work Day. Participants who record a bike ride or walk on the GoVT! Smartphone app or GoVT! Website
at least twice during the Challenge timeframe will be entered to win prizes from Vermont businesses. Download the app by clicking here: https://govermont.agilemile.com/More here

International Winter Bike to Work Day, Fri Feb 11
Get recognized for your car-free effort this day by entering the challenge above and looking for the Yellow Banana with swag near Middlebury Bagel and Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op during your morning commute 7:30-8:30 am. The Spring Bike to Work Day (more attended) will be Fri May 20.

Winter Biking and E-Bike Webinars
Local Motion hosts these regularly. Visit their website for upcoming coming ones and links to recordings of past ones, including this one on what you need to know about e-bikes in VT. They have LOTS of other great resources at their website, including bike maps. Another absolutely GREAT resource is VBike Solutions. There's all the motivation and info you need on making the transition, especially to cargo bikes and a whole spectrum of electric-assist mobility devices.

Fat Tire Bikes
The Fat Tire Roundup event planned for today Jan 29 at Rikert has been postponed to TOMORROW Sun Jan 30 due to extreme cold and winds. Did you know you could rent a fat tire bike (and e-bikes) from Frog Hollow Bikes ($20 half day/ $35 full day) and at Rikert ($15/hour or $55/day)? They are super fun!

VT Walk Bike Summit, Fri May 6
Save the date when Middlebury hosts this bi-annual event gathering at Town Hall Theater. Help us create healthy communities. More here.

Middlebury Bike Ped Planning
Town of Middlebury has been awarded an Agency of Commerce an Community Development (ACCD) Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) totaling $19,900 for the development of a Middlebury Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity Plan thanks to the efforts of Town Planner Jennifer Murray. We're grateful to Jennifer for this opportunity. It's focused on downtown and will list future sidewalk and path connections, safety concerns and needed bike lanes. Stay posted.
