Next Meeting August 28 from 4-8pm in Yachats

Save the date for the next Partnership meeting that will be generously hosted by the City of Yachats. It will be on August 28 from 4-8pm. Stay tuned for more information as the date nears!

Join a Working Group

We currently have three working groups that are meeting on a regular basis to learn about key water issues affecting different water users. If you have energy and knowledge around any of these areas, please consider lending your time and expertise. Click here to learn more about the working groups.

  • The Instream/Ecology working group is examining water needs for fish, the environment, recreation, and any other water user that needs their water to remain in the stream.
  • The Self-Supplied working group is examining water needs for domestic, commercial, and industrial water users that provide their own water and don’t rely on a city or water district.
  • The Municipal/Water District working group is examining the water needs and issues of water users served by municipalities and water districts which includes homes, businesses, and industry.

Check out the video from our panel on June 14 at the Hatfield Marine Science Center to talk about how we can balance our water needs. Many thanks to Hatfield Marine Science Center, Surfrider, City of Newport, and all of the panel members for your participation and support. Thank you also to Peter Vince for the video. We miss you Maryann, thank you for the inspiration!

Updates from Partners

These updates are provided by partners for the benefit of the Partnership. If you would like to submit news articles, notices for upcoming events, funding opportunities, etc., please send them along to con...@midcoastwaterpartners.com.

Beavers in the Mid-Coast - Check out the video! Kami Ellingson, a hydrologist with the US Forest Service, is featured in a video that explores how Beavers can be used to manage water supply. Click on this link and scroll to the third video. The video was produced by Peter Vince (that name should start to sound familiar), in partnership with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission and the USFWS Sportfish Restoration Program. Thanks to Fran Recht for sending it along.

Community Engagement – The Partnership has teamed up with Oregon’s Kitchen Table to design an engagement campaign to better understand broader community values, beliefs and priorities around water. Read the news article that describes the project.

2018 Water Conditions – Stream flows on the Mid-Coast are currently at 65% of normal and Lincoln County is currently considered to be abnormally dry based on the Drought Monitor. Temperatures are above normal and precipitation is below normal – both of these trends are expected to continue. Click here to view the latest Water Conditions report from the Water Resources Department. You can also read an article about water conditions in the Newport News Times.

EPA Small Systems Webinar Registration is now open for EPA’s Small Drinking Water Systems Webinar on Source Water Protection on June 26 from 11-12pm. Read more about the EPA’s Small Systems Monthly Webinar Series!
