In our neighborhood (SW Corvallis), we have a couple of hidden wildlife cameras set up.  Recently, we got a couple of videos of a Common Gray Fox leaving scent marks by rubbing his/her facial scent glands on the grass, and also marking the grass with urine or secretions of the anal scent glands.  I was reading that Common Gray Foxes tend to pair up in September and October, and they seem to advertise their availability with scent-marking.  They might be looking for a new partner, or they might seek to re-establish a territory with the partner they had for the last breeding season.

There are lots of tiny, cat-like fox tracks in the drying mud.  Also, we've noticed small, twisted scats filled with blackberry seeds and miscellaneous other fruits, insect fragments and hair.  They like to poop in prominent locations, putting it to good use as another territorial "signpost."

Hello,

There was a technical problem with the original Gray Fox video file and we had to delete it. Please use this link:

Hi Sallie,

Unfortunately, the first video we uploaded had a technical problem with
the framerate. Don posted an updated link for the new one (
http://youtu.be/JKTe0aXswF8 ) but for those getting the digest version of
this mailing list, that reply with the new link might not have been
included. Take a look using the updated link; it seems to be working
fine.

Thanks,
Lisa
