Tree crickets

Hello,

Last night I heard the first Tree Cricket of the season (Oecanthus sp.) and hear a few tonight too. Most are pale green with long bodies and clear wings. They mature well into the summer so now is the earliest time of year to hear them.

I’ve been hearing field crickets since spring ( Gryllus sp.). These fit the popular conception of a cricket. They are dark brown or close to black, stout and shiny with smoky wings.
