The deer we call Boss Mom brought her two fawns in for a good drink of water, then began grazing in the weeds where our septic system has kept things a bit greener. She was pulling up long strands of one weed in particular, seemed in preference to any others. When I zoomed in with my camera I could see that it was bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis. I've seen them eating something viney before and was glad to get the id. I know it won't make much of a dent, but I appreciate any assistance. Hopefully any seeds get destroyed in digestion. However, blackberries are another favorite treat for them. Those seeds are extremely persistent and I'm sure deer and birds are major spreaders.
We also saw one of the bobcats stroll through our backyard at 2PM a couple of days ago. Exact same route it took the second and third times we saw them. Very relaxed. Stopped to mark bushes a couple of times. We do seem to have fewer ground squirrels!
I'm including the URLs for two of my FLICKR albums; mammals and birds in Corvallis (area). These are both 'publicx view. Hope the links work.
