For today's Dallas CBC, daughter Martha and I hiked some logging roads off of Reuben Boise Road, in the Coast Range NW of Dallas.

We got skunked on the main species that we were looking for (Mountain Quail, Northern Pygmy-Owl and Canada Jay) but we had one big surprise when we saw an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE hunting a regenerating clearcut that was stuffed full of juncos. The location was around N 44.945° W123.404°, at an elevation of 1360 ft.
