The rewards of a (somewhat) procrastinating gardener

While enjoying breakfast this morning on our backyard deck, I happened to observe at least a dozen American Goldfinches feasting on a lettuce plant that had gone to seed. Additionally, earlier in the month we had flocks of Bushtits foraging on sweet corn tassels and House Finches supplementing their diet on a kale plant. Who knew that a vegetable garden could be such a dining hotspot??
