Monday afternoon we took Springhill Rd to the Buena Vista Rd and turned on Crocker along the south bank of the Little Luckiamute. Hawthorn, Osoberry and Oregon grape all in bloom. We saw some huge snarled nests in several of the hawthorn, no more than 15 feet off the ground. Seems too low for GB herons and too far off the ground for pack rats. Any ideas? I'll add photos if I can figure out how.
Also saw what looked like a nest higher in a Ponderosa pine growing very close to the bank. Odd to see a PP in such a wet zone. Then I realized the knot of material must be the mistletoe that infects PP. I've never seen that mistletoe on this side of the mountains before - odd all the way around.
