Last week I got a time lapse video of Fuligo septica, a.k.a. Dog Vomit Slime or Scrambled Eggs Slime in our compost. It's not fungus but an aggregation of single-cell organisms in the phylum Amoebozoa. They live independently in the soil but then come together and dissolve, spread as a pulsing goo called a plasmodium searching for food. Most die off with the top layer eventually forming spores.
