I've been seeing reports of Orange-crowned Warblers but -- despite listening carefully to all of the sound-a-like junco songs and watching for yellow birds in our willows -- I didn't see or hear one until today.

I heard him first, singing away, and it took me more than 5 minutes to figure out where he was singing from.

Then later today, out on E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area, I heard, then saw my first Common Yellowthroat of the season.

It's starting to feel like spring.

Like Joel I’d been trying to turn juncos into OC warblers on my morning point counts but not having any luck until about a week ago when finally the two-part trill was unmistakeable. And I’ve also had Violet-green Swallows in my meadow. I’ve cleared last year’s House Wren and V-G swallow nests out of the bluebird boxes. Still hoping for bluebirds.
